Roark
We build tools that turn dense medical paperwork into plain language patients can actually act on — starting with Roark Health, our patient-documentation assistant.
Takes documentation your care team already wrote and explains it the way a patient actually understands it.
Generates a specific, personalized checklist of questions for the patient's next visit — not generic filler.
Works with the AI provider your organization already uses — no new vendor, no data flowing through a middleman. .
The Product
A full patient-documentation workspace: paste in an after-visit summary, discharge note, or lab result, and work through it across six purpose-built tabs: Translate, Summary, Questions, Record, Export, and Settings.
Paste text directly, open a .txt file, or try a built-in example document — then generate a plain-language translation in one step.
Editable plain-language key points drawn only from the original document — add, edit, or remove any point, and copy the list with one click.
A personalized checklist of questions for the next appointment, based on what the document actually says — editable and copyable.
A dedicated space for the patient's own notes during the appointment — kept alongside the document it relates to.
Download as PDF, print directly, save as plain text, or save/reopen the entire session as a file to pick up later.
Connect any AI provider — Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, or a custom endpoint — with a live connection test and a saved key per device.
Roark Health is run by your care team on a clinic device. Patients get the output — on paper or as a PDF — without needing an account, an app, or an AI key of their own.
A nurse, MA, or care coordinator pastes the after-visit summary, discharge note, or lab result into the Translate tab and generates a plain-language version.
The Summary and Questions tabs are fully editable, so a team member checks the wording, removes anything that doesn't fit, and adds context the patient needs.
Print it or export a PDF for the patient. The question checklist goes with them to the next appointment, and the Record tab holds notes taken during that visit.
Most patient-engagement software either locks you into a single AI vendor or hides what the tool actually does with your data. Roark Health is built the other way.
| Capability | Roark Health | Typical bundled AI tools |
|---|---|---|
| Works with your organization's existing AI provider | Yes | Usually locked to one vendor |
| No usage markup on AI costs | Yes — you bring your own key | Often bundled and marked up |
| Explains existing documentation only (no new diagnoses) | Yes, by design | Varies, often unclear |
| Generates a personalized visit checklist | Yes | Rare |
| Clear, disclosed limitations | Stated plainly in the product | Often buried in legal text |
This is a general comparison of common approaches in the category, not a review of any specific product. We're happy to walk through how Roark Health compares to the tools you already use.
Roark Health explains documentation a clinician already produced. It does not diagnose, interpret new symptoms, or recommend treatment — and it says so, clearly, inside the product itself.
Security & Privacy
Clinical documents contain protected health information (PHI). Roark Health is built so that PHI goes directly from your browser to the AI provider your organization chooses — and nowhere else. Roark doesn't receive, process, or store any of it — no documents, no outputs, no usage data.
| Data | Where it goes | What Roark stores |
|---|---|---|
| Document text you paste or open | Sent from the browser directly to your organization's AI provider over HTTPS | Nothing |
| Plain-language output, summary, questions, and notes | Stays in the browser session; leaves the device only if you export or save it | Nothing |
| Saved session files | Saved to the device or location you choose, like any other file | Nothing |
| Your AI provider API key | Stored in that device's browser and sent only to the provider it belongs to | Nothing |
| Usage and activity | Not tracked by Roark. Your AI provider's own console shows API usage for your key | Nothing |
Because PHI goes to the AI provider you connect, that provider is the one handling it on your behalf. Before using Roark Health with real patient documents, your organization needs a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) in place with that provider, and should use only the account, plan, or endpoint the BAA covers.
Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google each offer BAAs for eligible business accounts. Confirm coverage with your provider before going live.
OpenRouter and custom endpoints may route requests through additional parties. Use them with PHI only if every party in the path is covered by a BAA.
The built-in example documents contain no real patient data, so your team can evaluate the product during the free trial before any BAA is signed.
Because Roark does not receive, store, or transmit PHI, we are not acting as a business associate for document content. If your compliance team would like that confirmed in writing, or requires a BAA as a matter of policy, contact us and we'll work through it with you.
Keys are stored in the browser profile of the device where they were entered and are never sent to Roark. On shared workstations, we recommend a dedicated browser profile per role or user, standard OS-level logins, and a restricted API key from your provider with spending limits. Keys can be removed at any time from the Settings tab.
Site License customers can configure an organization-wide key and provider during onboarding so individual staff don't enter their own. Contact us to discuss your setup.
No. Roark never receives your documents. Whether your AI provider retains or trains on API data is governed by your agreement with that provider — most business API plans do not train on customer data by default, but confirm this in your contract.
The includes compliance notes, and we're glad to answer security questionnaires directly — email us and we'll respond.
Documentation
A full written overview of Roark Health — the problem it solves, how it works, how it compares to typical patient portal software, pricing, compliance notes, and how to get started. Seven pages, ready to share with your team.
The problem, the product, how it works, a direct comparison table, safety & scope, compliance notes, pricing, and our process for finalizing an agreement.
Sharing internally with clinical leadership, procurement, or IT before a first conversation with us.
Pricing
Because your organization brings its own AI provider key, you're never paying us a markup on AI usage — you're paying for the platform itself. That's why we price by practice, provider, or site — never by usage.
Full access to every feature — Translate, Summary, Questions, Record, Export, Settings — for 14 days, no cost and no commitment. See it work on real documents before you pay for anything.
$150/month
$75/provider/month
From $1,500/month
Small Clinic eligibility: one plan per practice, tied to a single tax ID/NPI and a single location. It is not available to multi-location systems or to multiple affiliated practices splitting providers across several Small Clinic plans — that use case should use Per-Provider Seat or Site License instead. We may ask for practice registration details to confirm eligibility.
Which plan fits? Single location with two or more providers: Small Clinic is the better value. Solo clinician, or several locations with a handful of providers each: Per-Provider Seat. A hospital department or a whole site: Site License.
Why no usage-based pricing: since your organization supplies its own AI provider API key, Roark never touches your AI spend or marks it up — you're billed by your own provider directly for usage, and by us only for the platform. We think that's the more transparent way to do it.
However works best for you: meet in person, or close entirely remotely by video call and e-signature — both are equally valid ways to finalize an agreement with us.
Send us your organization's size and needs using the buttons above.
In person, or by video call — we walk through the product, pricing, and your requirements either way.
In person or by e-signature — both are fully valid. Then we move directly into onboarding.
